  • Stuffed Animals Toys

  • Margarete Steiff produced hundreds of different stuffed animals, she is best known for an American favorite, the stuffed bear, which she began exporting to America in 1904. Soft, lovable bears, all generally referred to by the public as teddies. Usually made of plush or mohair, with black button or glass eyes, each had an irresistible befuddled expression, and its own beguiling personality.

    Stuffed toy animals known in America from the early 19th century, undoubtedly enjoyed the same popularity they enjoyed through the length of the 20th century. Because of their easily damaged and aged materials, few such toys have survived.

    Undoubtedly the number of 19th century manufacturers was large. Their ranks my have included some of the manufacturers still active in the 1920s.

    Representative companies by the 1930s included Commonwealth Toy & Novelty Co., which specialized in stuffed toys made with genuine fur, with toy Scotty dogs a popular item. Gund was producing a wide variety of stuffed toys including its "Gee" line of the 1920's and 30's of mechanical stuffed animals.
  • Robots Toys

  • Robots are invariable well designed and obviously the products of fertile imagination. They came in all shapes and sizes, fitted with mechanisms ranging from the simple to the amazingly ingenious. One of the most eagerly sought-after robots is "MR ATOMIC" produced in Japan for the American company Cragstan. There are two known color variations of this particularly hard to find toy and both are able to hum a simple computerized tune when the power is switched on.

    Radicon Robot" had the luxury of prossessing a simple battery-operated remote-control system operated from a separate-unit. The announcement on the box-lid claims it to be "The First and Only Complete Radicon Remote Control toy." It is interesting to not that the same manufacturer also issued a "Radicon" toy bus and a "Radicon" toy speedboat both with similar operation. A highly collectible toy was based upon the character "Robby the Robot," which became popular through the Hollywood science-fiction movie starring Walter Pigeon and Ann Francis, entitled The Forbidden Planet. The film was based on William Shakespeare's play The Tempest and Robby replaced the original character of Caliban.
